Talitha Koum is Growing!

A Promising Future

After two decades of serving our community as one of the only therapeutic nurseries in Texas, we are setting our sights to the future. For 20 years, Talitha Koum has changed the lives of 30 children at a time, but we can’t and won’t stop there—not when we already own perfectly suitable land sitting unused next to our current facility. (See floor plan for expansion building below.)

With every year’s success stories—and the certifications and experience we have gained in serving our children—we are prepared to open our doors even further. Our expansion will more than double TKI’s size to 68 children, shortening our 75-child waitlist, and providing one mixed-grade classroom for 8 early elementary children brought to TKI “late,” meaning beyond their toddler stage. What a gift to offer therapeutic brain development to older children alongside our youngest! Our elementary-age children also deserve to become self-regulating before heading to public school, and a classroom just for them allows us to provide special attention based on their levels of brain development.

Raising $2,800,000 is ambitious but, thanks to our generous community and donors far and wide, we believe it is within reach. Our first goal for expansion funding was to raise $1 million in gifts and pledges by April 2023—not only did we meet that goal, but we exceeded it!

Our community’s involvement grows with each year, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We began November 2022 with an Awareness Event that brought together more than 50 hosts lending their good names to our mission of helping children rise and triumph no matter the circumstances.

Projected costs for the three-year expansion, accounting for cost increases expected over the next 3 years, can be seen here. This includes:

  • Campus expansion, refurbishment, and landscaping

  • Staffing

  • Classroom supplies and child scholarships

  • Nurture Center van

  • Family Partner and Kindergarten-to-College Mentoring programs

Since doubling intake requires doubling teaching staff, to recruit and retain highly qualified individuals we must provide the professional wages they deserve. By offering fair pay for specialized work, we can increase teacher longevity, deepen the quality of our therapeutic care, and reduce turnover costs.

With every donation, we are closer to serving more children than we ever have before.

A Chance to Rise Higher

Talitha Koum takes a non-punitive approach to nurturing young children’s neural pathways, rebuilding foundations for learning that are disrupted by high stress from living in poverty. Learn more about our proven methodology here.
