Donna Losak
Nurture Center Director
Since before the doors of Talitha Koum opened in January 2003, Donna has been an integral part of TKI's development as a brain development center. The founders of Talitha Koum knew that Donna's 25 years of experience in early childhoodeducation and her deep desire and call to work with trauma-affected children offered the characteristics that would guide the path to excellence.
Prior positions include Director of La Vega ISD's Family Resource Center and Childcare Resource Specialist with theWaco Smart Start Association. In this capacity, Donna was responsible for evaluating childcare classrooms for qualityusing a nationally recognized evaluation tool, and then for creating an improvement plan with the input of teachers anddirectors.
At Talitha Koum, Donna is "the child whisperer," having a bit of that sixth sense as to what therapeutic methods will enhance each child's development. She is responsible for hiring and engaging teachers in training activities that produce continuous improvement in our outcomes.
In 2019, Donna became certified, following many months of in-depth training by Child Trauma Academy, in its Neurosequential Model in Education (NME), which allows her to produce "mini maps" showing how well a child's brain is functioning at each level.
A voracious reader, Donna's Kindle is always with her. Her life is full with family—husband, Freddy, and their daughter, two sons, and three grandchildren—and her CrossTies faith community where she serves on the Mission Groups for Silent Retreat, Servant Leadership School, and Talitha Koum.
