Susan Cowley
Executive Director
Susan has poured time, sweat, and love since helping to found Talitha Koum Institute in 1998. Though she “has never been a day apart from its mission,” it wasn’t until March 2015 that she became its Executive Director.
Susan is a woman of many talents and her career has taken her from publishing, bank marketing, and owning her own marketing firm (The Cowley Group) to keeping her hand in the nonprofit world.
Susan has served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce and many other civic appointments. Susan was one of 10 Americans honored in 2003 with the national Louis Hine Award for Service to Children and Youth, given by the National Child Labor Committee. The honor is named for the early 20th-century photographer who documented the short, brutish lives of child laborers. Susan received the award in New York City in ceremonies held at the top of the Time-Life Building.
Susan is a member of CrossTies ~ An Ecumenical Faith Community, where she serves as a Spiritual Director and teaches in the Servant Leadership School. She and her husband, John, have two sons and spend time loving four grandchildren and participating in Talitha Koum’s mentoring program. When they get the chance, off they go traveling (wherever the temp is cool) or attending a Jesuit-led contemplative retreat.
